One of the most important areas of health for most men nowadays is prostate health. With all the attention given to prostate cancers, enlargements, and infections over the past few years, many men are thankfully more aware of the need not to ignore this vital part of their overall health picture. In addition to the more dangerous problems of prostate cancer, men can also experience a prostate infection, known as prostatitis. In this condition, infections caused by either bacteria, or another unknown reason, can cause swelling and other problems, with the problems eventually making their way into the urethra and urinary tract. Given the somewhat serious consequences of this condition, if it’s left untreated, it is important for men to recognize prostate infection symptoms and seek medical care if they are experiencing these problems.
As with any problem or infection, symptoms will vary from person to person. However, generally speaking, some of the prostate infection symptoms to watch for include:
- frequent urination (especially an increased frequency),
- pain during urination or during sexual activity,
- urgent need to urinate,
- the inability to produce a normal urine stream, and
- general genital pain
If these symptoms are accompanied by fever, chills, and/or fatigue, it is imperative to seek immediate medical attention as these sings can indicate a more serious infection. Sometimes, the infection can become recurring or chronic. In those cases, men can suffer from -
- sexual problems,
- lower back and genital pain,
- fever,
- stress and depression,
- and all-over muscle and joint pain
Treating the prostate infection symptoms will usually require outpatient treatment at a physician’s office. It has been estimated that half of all men will encounter a prostate infection at some point in their lives. This is the most common prostate problem encountered by men under the age of fifty, with most infections occurring in men between the ages of thirty and fifty. Unfortunately, some men will delay seeing a doctor for these symptoms for fear of having prostate cancer or for fear of an uncomfortable exam and treatment, but this type of thinking is exactly the opposite of good health advice. Anyone having these symptoms should seek out their doctor’s care in order to protect their health.
Thanks for listing the symptoms here. Its staggering to think that nearly half of all men will suffer with some kind of prostate infection at some time in their lives.
I wonder how many men dont take any notice of this? Perhaps more cases of prostate cancer could be detected earlier if more men knew what to look for or knew about resources like this.
Thanks for the post.

Inflammation of the prostate glands is normally referred to as prostate infection. Infection that irritates the prostate can inflame the gland, causing swelling. Prostate infections or prostatitis occurs most often in men aged 30-50 years but can occur in older men.
